This was written essay style to be read aloud as an episode for my podcast (“Well That’s That, with Mama A). Please enjoy.
I’ve decided to do a couple episodes on my personal beliefs. I wanted to start with my political beliefs since that seems to be on the forefront of everyone’s being these days. Literally EVERYTHING revolves around politics. And Lord help you if you’re on the “wrong side” of things. If you’re talking to a raging liberal and you’re conservative, you’ll never hear the end of it, it being why YOU’RE WRONG and THEY’RE RIGHT. But, you will experience the end of a friendship. If you’re talking to a raging conservative and you have some liberal views, you will unfortunately have to listen to conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory. Why is there no middle ground? I consider myself conservative. Let’s lay that out there. I’m not a republican but I am conservative. Which means: SMALL government. To get into further specifics, I’d say I most closely align with Libertarianism. Now, there are things they believe that I don’t agree with but you won’t find a political party that you agree 100% with. Which is why we need to grow our pathetic two party system. Let’s also lay this out there: no politician is for us. Us being the small people. The people that keep this country going. The country is run by the ultra riche, who have no interest in genuinely helping US. They’re all in it for themselves and their gain. They’re are NOT on our side. We need to toss everyone and everything, including the outdated fucking Constitution and rebuild and rewrite it all. Which will never happen. So we’re going to ride this dying horse right into the ground until Civil War breaks out across the entire nation and we end up eating everyone. Ok. Onto Libertarianism.
What is Libertarianism? A waste of a vote? No. Hell naw. Wikipedia defines Libertarianism as a political philosophy that upholds liberty as a core principle. Libertarians seek to maximize autonomy and political freedom, emphasizing free association, freedom of choice, individualism and voluntary association. The best quote I heard to describe it, your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins. But brother, when there are no noses, swing away. I added the second half. The government’s job is to protect and SERVE. So, lay down laws that protect life and THAT’S IT! No murder, no rape, no stealing, etc. But if you want to take a boat load of drugs and sail into oblivion, go ahead. Everything that doesn’t affect a person’s personal liberty is LEGAL. All drugs: legal. All forms of self-expression: legal. The thing is, you can’t force someone to go along with your ideas. Everyone is entitled to think, feel and say whatever it is they want. Technically, that’s the way it is now. Freedom of speech and press has become muddled. Now, Libertarianism originated as a form of left-wing politics, American Libertarianism is more right-wing (conservative). American Libertarianism advocates small government, culturally liberal and fiscally conservative. Leave me alone, let me do what I want and let me keep most of my money. There ya go. I appreciate the liberals in their mindset of helping those is need, but I’m sorry. I’m in need. I need my own money. I don’t want to pay for anyone but myself and my family. I love public education (well…. That needs work… for another episode), public parks, public libraries, USPS, roadway infrastructure, public transportation, things that me and my family enjoy and utilize. I will pay those taxes all the livelong day. But, until the welfare system has been overhauled… meh.
The vaccine. As much as I support it, I’ve taken it and so has my family, friends and other loved ones… I do not think the government has a right to mandate it. Forcing someone to do something is one way to get them to dig their heels in harder. Ever try to mandate a teenager dress a certain way? Or mandate your toddler to stay seated through a meal? How about mandating someone get sober? Nope. I don’t think the government has any right to say what we do with our bodies. Yes, one could argue “but not getting the vaccine puts others’ at risk, thus your swinging fist is hitting their nose!” I agree… but when it comes to your personal health, not your physical actions, the government cannot mandate you do anything. This means I’m also fiercely Pro Choice. I believe in assisted suicide. I am totally ok with people having gender reassignment surgeries. I am totally ok with responsible gun ownership (of course, you must complete all required applications, background checks, etc). I am ok with legalizing every and all drug on the face of the earth. Why, HOW, could I have any other opinion?! I am in control of my own body and nobody else’s’. Except my kids, til they are 18.
One place I stand that I do not believe is a Libertarian view, is the environment. I refuse to say where I stand politically with environment conservation, all I know is I stand with the environment. Let’s stop big corporations and factories that treat their workers like garbage anyway. Let’s mandate THEM to stop pumping waste into our air, water and land. It’s not solely on US, the little people. We can make the small changes where we can. But, why are we not putting this on the backs of the people who caused and are perpetuating this deadly issue?!
At the end of the day, leave me alone. Love each other and the planet. Give where you can, take only what you need, and provide for your own. We are humans, we’re all trying our hardest to be happy. Please, let everyone continue trying. Because it’s none of your goddamn business.
